Company Insights

Disrupting the traditional healthcare delivery system by bridging the gap between the current system and digital health, Recuro is led by Michael Gorton, founding CEO of Teladoc. The Recuro team includes several Teladoc leaders along with other healthcare luminaries and experienced business executives. These experienced healthcare executives and clinicians have a deep understanding of the current challenges facing healthcare systems and are building the infrastructure and partnerships to address challenges that include care fragmentation, gaps in care, poor outcomes and high costs and more. Collectively, these issues make healthcare unsustainable but create a fertile opportunity for the changes that Recuro brings to all stakeholders.

Josh Nordtvedt

SVP Payer Strategy

As Recuro’s Senior Vice President of Payer Strategy, Josh is responsible for growing our virtual footprint in the Health Plans market space. With over 20+ years of industry experience, Josh’s passion is DATA. In fact in 2015, Josh began a study that focused on analyzing healthcare quality metrics and risk adjustments in order to reflect the true acuity level of each individual member by measuring the overall relative performance of each health plan. Josh soon realized that it was not the culmination of data that solved for risk adjustment, but rather, the aggregate data that aided all the downstream processes… including improved patient health. That’s why Josh joined Recuro – because he believes genomic data can truly change individual outcomes and pay for itself exponentially. Over the course of his career, Josh has helped to implement and integrate thousands of impactful virtual solutions like the ones we offer today! As a Washington native with 3 daughters, Josh loves anything to do with the Seattle Seahawks – when he’s not relaxing with his family on sports nights, he’s actively geeking out on healthcare blogs keeping up on the latest trends!

Known to many as the “Father of Telemedicine,” he developed the first statewide telemedicine system; the first Correctional telemedicine program; the first tele-homecare technology, called “The Electronic House Call” and the first telemedicine kiosk. His consulting activities have included NASA, DOD, HHS, the FCC, State Governments, WHO and multiple academic institutions and Fortune 500 companies. In 1994, Dr Sanders introduced telemedicine capability to the then Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), Dr. Steven C Joseph; that culminated in the initiation of the use of this technology within DOD. He was subsequently asked to serve as the sole civilian representative on the DOD Telemedicine Board of Directors with the Surgeons General of the Army, Navy and Air Force. During the Clinton Administration, he represented the USA to the G8 nations for telemedicine and was appointed by former HHS Secretary Leavitt to the Chronic Care Workgroup Committee.

Stephen played an integral part in developing the MRI for spine, bringing the artificial disc to the U.S., and facilitating the development of the pedicle screw fixation system first implanted by Art Steffee, M.D.

The future, Steve Hochschuler decided 40 years ago, is telemedicine. “All those years ago I helped Harvard develop a telemedicine apparatus to the tune of $125k per workstation. Now the pandemic has necessitated telemedicine, but it is incredibly cost efficient. I have just raised funds for a telemedicine company and am putting together a digital health system that incorporates a navigator to tell patients who they are seeing, where, and what their copay will be. The landscape remains in flux and as such is very exciting.” At 78 years old, Dr. Hochschuler is still traveling approximately 25-30% of the time, visiting companies, attending surgeon meetings, spending time with TBI colleagues and devoting his seemingly inexhaustible energy to creating the next future in spine surgery.
